Ibn Bazz: Ruling on urinating while standing

Ruling on urinating while standing
Q: Is it permissible for a man to urinate while standing, while making sure that no urine soils the body or the clothes?
A: There is nothing wrong with urinating while standing, particularly when necessary, if the place is hidden where no one can see the `Awrah (private parts of the body that must be covered in public) of the one urinating and the urine does not soil him. It was authentically reported on the authority of Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) came to the dumps of some people and urinated while standing. (Agreed upon by AlBukhari and Muslim) However, it is better to urinate while sitting, for this is the regular practice of the Prophet (peace be upon him) and covers the `Awrah and saves one from being soiled by urine.  6/352
